What this tool does
ZIP packing merges several files into one .zip archive: drop a batch of files, pick a compression level, download. ZIP is the most universal archive format — Windows, macOS and phones all open it natively.
Typical uses: bundling photos, invoices, logs or homework to share; flattening "multiple uploads" into one file; or taking a lightweight snapshot of a folder. Packing runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How to use
- Drop several files at once Mix any formats — text, images, PDFs and spreadsheets can share one archive, with original file names preserved.
- Pick a level and pack "Store only" is fastest and slightly larger — good for already-compressed media; "max compression" noticeably shrinks text at some cost in time.
- Download and verify Download the .zip when done; to confirm integrity, compare hashes of originals and unpacked files with the hash tool.
FAQ
Will packing damage my files?
No. ZIP is a lossless container — every unpacked entry matches the original byte for byte; verify with the hash tool if in doubt.
Will images or videos shrink?
Barely. JPG/PNG/MP4 are already compressed, so ZIP gains little; choose "store only" for them — it is the fastest.
How many files can I pack?
Limited by browser memory — a few hundred ordinary files work fine in practice; each file up to 200MB. For very large batches, pack in groups.
Can I password-protect the ZIP?
Not yet. Legacy ZIP encryption is weak and inconsistently implemented; for confidential transfer, rely on your cloud drive or mail provider's encryption.
Can I unpack a ZIP here?
Unpacking is planned — it needs a one-time architecture extension (multi-file engine output) and will ship as its own tool.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Packing runs in a browser Worker; files never leave your device.
Limits
Up to 200MB per file; entry names keep the file name only, without folder hierarchy (browser security).
Duplicates get a numeric suffix instead of being overwritten; no passwords, split volumes or ZIP64.
Unpacking ZIPs is not supported yet (needs multi-file engine output, see roadmap).
