What this tool does

EPUB to TXT reduces an e-book to plain text: chapters are extracted in reading order, chapter titles and paragraph breaks are kept, while images, stylesheets and markup are dropped.

Everything runs in your browser; the book is never uploaded. The resulting .txt drops straight into readers, full-text search or corpus pipelines.

Because the tool follows the OPF spine rather than file names inside the ZIP, the output order always matches how the book is meant to be read. Chapters with missing files are skipped instead of failing the whole conversion, so a slightly broken EPUB still yields every readable chapter.

How to use

  1. Drop your .epub above Up to 50MB per file. DRM-protected books are rejected outright; this tool never cracks encryption.
  2. Tune the two toggles "Keep chapter title lines" controls whether chapter names appear; "blank line between chapters" controls spacing.
  3. Download and check the TXT Download when done. Skim the start and end to confirm chapter order matches the book.

FAQ

Can chapter order come out scrambled?

No. Output strictly follows the OPF spine, not the internal file names.

Can DRM-protected books be converted?

No. When encryption.xml is present the tool returns an error and never attempts decryption.

Are images kept?

No. TXT carries text only; illustrations are dropped. Use EPUB to HTML if you need images.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Unpacking and extraction happen entirely in your browser.

Does one broken chapter fail everything?

No. Damaged or missing chapters are skipped; the rest still convert.

Are Chinese titles supported?

Yes. Chapters decode as UTF-8 and Chinese titles and text pass through unchanged.

Limits

Up to 50MB per file; unencrypted EPUB 2/3 only.

No DRM cracking, no images, footnotes or hyperlinks, no generated table of contents.

Footnotes are emitted inline where they appear, not collected at the end.
