What this tool does
QR reader turns a QR code or barcode inside an image back into readable text: URLs, WiFi credentials, contacts or plain text. The result shows on the page and can be copied or downloaded in one click.
Everything runs locally in your browser — the image is never uploaded, which suits codes that carry sensitive data such as WiFi passwords.
How to use
- Prepare an image with a code A screenshot, a saved photo or a downloaded image all work — PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP and GIF are accepted.
- Drop or choose the image Drop the image into the dashed area, or click to pick a file. Up to 20MB each.
- Copy or download Once recognised, the text appears in the result box — hit Copy to paste it, or Download to save a .txt file.
FAQ
Which codes are supported?
By default QR codes and common 1D barcodes (Code 128/39, EAN, UPC, Codabar, ITF); “QR only” restricts to QR.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Recognition happens entirely on your device; the image never leaves the browser.
Why does it say the browser is unsupported?
It relies on the native BarcodeDetector API. Firefox and some others lack it — use Chrome, Edge or Safari 18+.
Can it scan from the live camera?
This tool takes image files, not a live camera feed — save a camera shot and drop it in.
Can it read several images at once?
One image at a time for now. Batch recognition is a later enhancement that needs a dedicated output design.
Does it auto-open a recognised URL?
No. It only returns the text; whether to open a link is up to you, which avoids accidental malicious clicks.
Limits
Up to 20MB per image; PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP and GIF. Needs a BarcodeDetector-capable browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari 18+). One image at a time; no live camera scan.
Accuracy depends on image clarity and code integrity; heavily blurred, occluded or distorted codes may fail.
