Images larger than this are scaled down proportionally; smaller ones keep their size.

80 is usually visually indistinguishable; below 60 artifacts become visible.

What this tool does

Image compression re-encodes PNG, JPG or WebP into a smaller JPEG: you can cap the longest edge in pixels, or tune the JPEG quality directly.

Decoding and encoding use the browser’s own image pipeline — nothing is uploaded and no processing engine is downloaded. The result is ready to download immediately.

A simple rule of thumb: cap the longest edge first, then decide whether quality needs lowering. Pixel count drops quadratically while quality only affects encoding detail, so downscaling almost always pays better. For images you send to someone, 1600px at quality 80 is plenty; for website assets, 1200px at quality 75 usually halves the size again with no visible difference on screen.

How to use

  1. Drop one or more images PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 50MB each; you can select several at once for batch compression.
  2. Set longest edge and quality Longest edge defaults to 1600px, good for web and email; quality defaults to 80, usually indistinguishable to the eye.
  3. Download and compare You will see the before/after size. Zoom in to check details, especially on screenshots with text.

FAQ

What happens to transparency?

JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are composited onto white. Use the format converter if you need to keep transparency.

Is EXIF data kept?

Re-encoding drops EXIF and other metadata, including shooting parameters and orientation (orientation is applied while decoding, so nothing comes out rotated).

Why did my PNG get bigger?

Flat-colour images and screenshots compress very well as PNG and can grow when converted to JPEG. Keep PNG in those cases.

Is batch processing supported?

Yes. Drop several images at once — they are all compressed and delivered as a single ZIP; a single image is delivered the same way for consistency.

Are animated images supported?

Animated GIFs and SVG are not supported; this tool only outputs static JPEG.

Is my file uploaded?

No — all processing happens inside your browser.

Limits

Up to 50MB per image; batch supported, multiple images output as a ZIP archive.

Each entry is JPEG: no alpha channel and no EXIF; animated GIF and SVG are not supported.
