What this tool does
Write page numbers onto every page of a PDF — choose the position (bottom centre, bottom right, bottom left, top right) and the format (number only, or current / total).
The text layer and page dimensions are preserved; numbers sit inside the margin and do not cover the main content.
Everything happens inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use
- Drop your PDF into the area above One PDF up to 100MB. The file is opened locally.
- Pick a position and format If the document has covers that should not be counted, set the start value to something other than 1 (for example, start at 5).
- Download the result Download once ready. Spot-check several pages to confirm the position and size look right.
FAQ
Can I use Roman numerals, letters or Chinese numerals?
No. This tool only provides plain numbers (n and n-of-total). For other formats, split the PDF with extract-pages and add the markers manually, or use a dedicated typesetting tool.
The first pages are covers and should not be counted. What do I do?
First use the extract-pages tool to remove the cover pages, then run this tool on what remains with start set to 1.
Is my file uploaded?
No. All processing happens inside your browser; the server only serves the page.
Can the numbers sit closer to the edge?
This tool places numbers inside a margin of 1.5× the font size. If the PDF already has a header or footer, the two layers will overlap; pick another position or strip the existing one first.
Will the numbers damage the file?
No. The numbers are a single text layer drawn on top; the original content stays intact. Keep the original as the master copy and treat the numbered file as the deliverable.
Limits
Up to 100MB per file, one file at a time; plain numbers only — no Roman numerals, letters or Chinese numerals.
One position per PDF; "skip the first N pages" is not supported — remove covers first with the extract-pages tool.
